Debunking Vaping Myths: Facts They Don't Want You To Know

For a new age is born, new things are always deemed as a sin. Although vaping has gained popularity around the world and won millions of ex-smokers over to a less harmful way, it is attacked all the time. Flavors of disposable vapes are restricted in many states. Smokers are frequently discouraged by rumors or targeted, misleading information from even trying. Recent flavor bans across the State are just another hard proof. Vaping myths and lies are spread by mainstream media. Today, I'd like to debunk some myths about vaping that are spread on a daily basis.

1. Can Vaping Before Surgery Kill You?

If you are allergic to any ingredient of an e-cigarette, you should not start vaping. That's true. For any vaper who is not allergic to vapes at all, the chance of vaping before surgery killing you is little. Nowadays, there are few cases where vaping is the main factor that leads to postoperative death.

However, nicotine use before surgery adversely slows the healing and jeopardizes your health. It makes your vessels shrink and, in return, cut off the blood supply to the healing tissue. People who suffer from heart diseases and respiratory problems should avoid vaping before surgery. It is recommended that people stop vaping 6 or 7 weeks prior to surgery. Although vaping does not kill you directly, the complications and other risk factors should not be neglected.

2. Does Vaping Age You?

Not a clever question, as breathing ages you most significantly, and shall we quit oxygen? Here, aging is generally referred to as the aging of skin. Vaping and smoking both age us quickly in terms of organs, owing to the involvement of nicotine. However, vaping does not influence how you look as tremendously as smoking does.

does vaping age you

Carbon monoxide is the main cause of gas poisoning and also the byproduct of smoking. It displaces the oxygen in your blood and then makes your skin dull and tired. Other substances, such as tar, formaldehyde, and ammonia, have similar effects too. Usually, the index and middle fingers of heavy smokers are yellowish-brown.

3. Does Vaping Make You Lose Weight?

Underage kiddos repeatedly find absurd excuses to do what they shouldn't do, like "I vape so that I can lose weight". This is 100% incorrect. In the first place, no one under 21 years old should vape. Secondly, vaping is not a method to get in shape.

does vaping make you lose weight

The truth is that nicotine can increase the dopamine release and increase metabolism to some extent. Your appetite might be suppressed temporarily. However, the effects weaken gradually when you build tolerance to nicotine, and the same effect will take a much higher dose. So, exercise and eating healthily are the only ways to lose weight without risks.

4. Does Vaping Produce Formaldehyde?

I've watched an Ad from YouTube dozens of times about vaping, and it introduces me to a website that claims "Vape juice contains 31 chemicals or more. Some, such as formaldehyde, become toxic when heated." I must admit that the author of this text has Oscar-worthy talent for rewriting reality.

does vaping produce formaldehyde

First of all, formaldehyde is not an ingredient in the e-liquid. E-juice does expire but requires no preservatives like formaldehyde. Formaldehyde, if any is produced in the vaporization, is due to the overheating or dry hits that no rational vapers desire. A thesis also points out that "high levels of formaldehyde are produced in unrealistic (dry puff) conditions".

Secondly, it is common sense that formaldehyde is toxic whether heated or not. It is the amount of formaldehyde involved in vaping that matters. The fact is, we are exposed to the same or even higher amount of formaldehyde every day without vaping at all. Even cooking fumes, pressed wood products and some shampoos contain formaldehyde, and the amount is as scarce as overheated vape produces. Maybe that's why you shouldn't use a burnt vape.

5. Conclusion

Fabricating hoaxes and hasty generalizations do not help regulate vapes nor promote harm reduction measures at all. With so much uncertainty concerning e-cigarettes and clear facts about cigarettes and smoking, all we need is further study and an open mind for possibilities. That's all about myths about vaping. Please deal with propaganda carefully. I will see you next week.
