Trends British research reiterated e-cigarettes are not harmless, but safer than traditional cigarettes

The Committee on Toxicity of Food, Consumer Products and Chemicals in the Environment (COT), composed of independent experts, is a report commissioned by the British Ministry of Health and Social Care and Public Health to jointly review electronic nicotine delivery systems and equipment that use e-liquids that exclude any nicotine (ENDS).

The review found that when ENDS products are properly produced and used, “the adverse health effects of alternatives may be reduced overall, although the magnitude of the decline will lead to the related effects of cigarettes.

The review once again found that "compared to traditional cigarette benchmarks, the use of ENDS products may be associated with risk reduction, and it is considered that these products are risk-free." "

The review pointed out best practices in manufacturing and production to minimize risks. COT pointed out that "the fidelity of the structure, the materials used and the operating capabilities" are important considerations for equipment, and for e-liquids, formula foods should be extracted from reputable sources and should not include non-standard ingredients.

The COT review also covered lung injury incidents seen in the United States, confirming that acetyl vitamin E is "closely related" to these cases. COT further pointed out that the use of this substance is prohibited in the nicotine atomized products regulated by the United Kingdom.

"Our evaluation of e-cigarettes further strengthens the scientific consensus on the relative safety of e-cigarettes. Although they are not completely harmless, they are far less harmful than smoking," said COT Chairman Alan Boobis (Alan Boobis).

Vapesourcing Opinion:

Research institutions are welcome to conduct more in-depth research on e-cigarettes, because it helps us better understand the harm reduction of smoking and the potential for public health. It’s great to see COT confirms the overall risk reduction for people from smoking to smoking.
