Trends Guide To Getting Maximum Flavour

There are generally two groups when it comes to vaping - cloud chasers and flavour chasers. If you fall into the latter category or just want to ramp up how much flavour you get out of your juice, we’ve got a few tips to help you out. With a world of e-liquids to try, many of them having complex and unique flavour profiles, you’ll get more out of them by making a few tweaks. You don’t need to sacrifice those big clouds either - you’ll still get a great vapour payoff just with more of that taste you’re looking for.

E-LIQUID SELECTION:

IF YOU’RE A MOUTH TO LUNG VAPER USING A LOWER-POWERED KIT:

For mouth to lung vapers, you’re best off with an e-liquid higher on PG. Propylene glycol is the thinner liquid in vape juice, meaning it vaporises more easily than VG - it’s also the bit that carries flavour. If you have less wattage you’ll want a juice that evaporates easily and has plenty of flavours - so we’d recommend a 50:50 liquid. You can go for more PG if you feel so inclined but you’ll also get more of a harsh throat hit with it.

IF YOU’RE A SUB OHM VAPER WITH A MORE POWERFUL KIT:

Once you get into Sub Ohm vaping you’ve got a lot more options open to you. Generally, you’ll get through more juice with a higher-powered device meaning you’re probably picking up shortfalls when you go to your local vape shop. While you might usually add a nic shot if you’re vaping for flavour alone you’re better off going without the nicotine. Adding more liquid to your shortfall dilutes the flavour concentrates slightly and nicotine naturally has a mild peppery flavour to it which can interfere with your juice.

When it comes to your VG/PG ratio, you’ll want to ideally look at a 70:30 balance here. You could use a 50:50 juice but because you’re likely vaping at a higher wattage (anything over 20 watts), using more PG will give a much harsher throat hit.

Take away from the above:

A. Go for low to no nicotine, ideally, you don’t want to dilute your shortfall at all.

B. Aim for a 70:30 juice, while 50:50 are generally better for flavour in lower-powered devices they’ll be too harsh in a Sub-ohm device.

SUB OHM TANKS:

If you’re using a Sub-Ohm tank and box mod setup, there are a few tweaks you can make here too. The first is to look at your coil resistance and wattage guidelines. Most coils will have the optimum wattage range written on them, we advise you to stay within this range otherwise you’re at risk of burning the coils quickly. The lower resistance options (0.15 to 0.3 ohms) can generally go from anything ranging between 60 and 110 watts. Start at the midpoint and work your way up - the more heat you get the more intense the flavour will be. If you have a coil that can go from 60 to 90 watts, start at around 70 to 75 watts and see if you notice a difference. Gradually ramp it up two watts at a time until you strike the right balance between flavour, vapour and heat - without going so high as to burn your coil out. Tanks with mesh coils are also great for boosting the individual notes in your e-liquid - they have a more even heat distribution and faster ramp-up which results in better flavour.

A NOTE ON AIRFLOW:

Adjusting how airy your vape is will affect the balance between cloud production and flavour intensity. Less airflow with a higher wattage will give you a warmer vape with a more powerful flavour. There are two things on your tank to look at here - your drip tip and airflow adjustment.

Going for a more narrow drip tip will help condense the vapour which results in greater flavour payoff. If your tank has an 810 drip tip, swap it out for the 510 option. The other thing to look at is the airflow on the base of your tankless airflow will mean a bit more heat in your coil, less vapour but more flavour.

USE AN RDA:

If you’ve tried everything with your usual Sub Ohm tank and are still looking for more - the next step would be upgrading your best vape kit to an RDA. This option opens up a whole lot of new avenues for you to customise the way you vape.

They involve building your own coils or, if that seems like a bit much effort, you can get pre-built coil options. They don’t have a glass tank, rather you wick them with cotton yourself, drip liquid directly onto the coil and vape it away. You need to re-saturate the wick every few puffs but the flavour is super crisp and allows you to change juice more often than with a regular tank. Added bonus: even when your wicking eventually burns out, the wires can still be used several times, making rebuildable an even more affordable option than regular Sub Ohm tanks.

There are a few things to keep in mind when you’re choosing an RDA:

A. Look for an option that allows for a dual coil setup (that means two pieces of wire sitting next to each other). We’d recommend something like the Vandy Vape Pulse or Geek Vape Peerless RDAs.

B. Certain metals will give you better flavour while others are made for cloud chasing. The best ones to go for flavour wise are Clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil.

C. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you’ll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts. Clapton and Alien coils usually take a bit more power to ramp up so you’ll want to boost the wattage if you’re using either of these options.

Once you’ve got everything just right - a mix of the perfect resistance, the right PG/VG ratio juice and a good balance of airflow and heat - you’ll be able to experience better flavour than ever.
