VOOPOO ARGUS P1 is the latest pod system in the burgeoning ARGUS family.
It is powered by the GENE AI 1.2 chipset and features an inbuilt 800mAh capacity battery.
It also features USB-C PD charging supporting fast charging at 3A (recharging in under 20 mins).
ARGUS P1 utilizes the same excellent new ARGUS pods as the ARGUS Pod device. It comes with a 0.7Ω and 1.2Ω pod resistance pod in the kit.
VOOPOO ARGUS P1 is available in 5 color variations: Silver, Gunmetal, Black, Red, and Green.
Design and Build Quality
ARGUS P1 is a stunning little device.
When you get up close and personal with the P1, you can see every little detail that VOOPOO has incorporated to make it strike a good balance between futuristic and sleek.
Two-thirds of the device is a matte-finished zinc alloy plate that is simple in styling with just an ‘ARGUS’ branding vertically aligned.
Then we have a clear plastic section showcasing the board and chipset elements. You can see all the details along with the ‘Gene’ logo.
On one side of the transparent section, you will notice a gold-plated bar that comes out through the top of the device; this is a reinforced lanyard loop. It’s the one part of the design I’m not so keen on, but it does give it a unique look.
You will also notice there are 4 horizontal LED lights inside this section, which I have a love/hate relationship.
On the metal side of the P1, there is an airflow adjustment slider, so you can do both restricted DTL and MTL vaping with the included pods.
You also have a USB-C port for fast charging, and this thing really does charge fast!
I managed to recharge with a standard 2A charger in approximately 25 minutes. Eventually, when I tested it with a PD charger, that time was down to less than 20.
There are no buttons on the P1, as it is operated solely by auto-draw.
Argus P1 is also incredibly comfortable to hand thanks to the nicely curved edges and compact form factor. It measures 74.6 x 46.7 x 17.4 with the pod inserted.
There is little weight to it at 71.5 grams, thanks to its main zinc alloy frame. Compared to other pod systems of this style, it’s definitely noticeable. Still, I find it just adds to the premium feel of the device.
Overall, ARGUS P1 is a stunning-looking little pod kit with the exceptional build quality, making it feel like a premium product.
Features
ARGUS P1 pod kit is an easy-to-use device that doesn’t come with many features to confuse the user.
It is powered by the GENE AI 1.2 chipset and features an inbuilt 800mAh capacity battery.
The battery supports USB-C fast charging with a regular rate of 2A or with the use of a PD fast charger at 3A.
It can charge from dead in 18 minutes. However, there is no pass-through vaping, so you can’t use it while it’s charging.
There are no adjustable power settings. Instead, it sets the power output based on the resistance of the attached pod.
It also has a feature with the new chipset that automatically adjusts the wattage based on the pressure of your inhale. The power is then displayed using the four LEDs tucked away in the plastic section of the device.
This P1 does not have a manual fire button. For this reason, it can only be operated by inhaling and using the auto-draw trigger.
However, the P1 does feature adjustable airflow, with a slider on the side of the device.
The LEDs on the device also act as the battery status guide. However, it’s not apparent when the P1 is in use.
You can only see the battery status when you attach/remove a pod or when it’s plugged in for charging.
The LEDs will display the following:
l Four white LEDs = 76 – 100%
l Three white LEDs = 51 – 75%
l Two white LEDs = 25 – 50%
l One Red LED = 1 -25%
ARGUS P1 also comes with the usual array of safety protections. Most of which are highlighted by a combination of flashes of the red LED light.
ARGUS Pod
ARGUS P1 comes with the same pods as ARGUS Pod we have recently reviewed.
They are excellent pods that VOOPOO has spent a lot of time trying to perfect.
The pods have a 2ml capacity, and a 0.7Ω and a 1.2Ω resistance pod are included in the kit. The resistance is clearly marked on the rubber fill plug of each pod.
The fill plug is found on the side base of the pod, which gets concealed when the pod is inserted into the device. It’s a large rubber plug that’s easy to open and reveals a large fill port that can accommodate large fill bottle tips.
The pods connect to the P1 through magnets. It’s a nice solid connection with no play or wiggle whatsoever, and they are still easy to remove.
ARGUS pod has a multi-layer design with 4 small airholes, which helps prevent leaks and provides a smooth draw. They do an excellent job, and I’ve never had any issues using the ARGUS pods.
I like that the pod is clear plastic, so you can easily see your juice levels. In addition, they have an excellent slender and curved design making them super comfortable in the mouth.
Performance
The performance of VOOPOO ARGUS P1 pod kit is excellent.
The device is effortless to use and works flawlessly. The auto-draw trigger is very responsive, and the power is delivered almost immediately from the pods.
However, the real star of the show with this kit is the ARGUS pods. Like the ARGUS Pod device, these newly designed pods deliver an excellent vape experience.
The 0.7Ω resistance pod delivers a warm and flavorful vape with plenty of clouds. I tested it with 70VG juice, and it kept up perfectly with no dry hits at all.
The 0.7Ω pod can be used in either an MTL setup or a restricted DTL. However, I found it worked best with a restricted DTL or very loose MTL draw.
The 1.2Ω pod is excellent when it comes to MTL. The vape is slightly cooler than the 0.7Ω pod, but it still delivers on the flavor and enables a tighter draw.
The airflow control on the P1 works very well and stays in place when it’s been adjusted. The P1 delivers a smooth, almost silent draw from both pods, which is great.
The P1 device doesn’t have any buttons or adjustments, which is fine for those looking for an easy-to-use device. It handles the power delivery well, but I’m not sold on the whole; the more you inhale, the more power is delivered setup of the P1.
I prefer the ability to tailor the vape experience myself. Therefore, I lean toward the ARGUS Pod device being the better of the two.
I also find it incredibly frustrating that you can’t see your battery status because of the LED lights showing the power output on your draw. As a result, you must remove and replace the pod each time you want to check your battery level, which is very annoying.
The P1 does notify you with a red LED light when the battery level is extremely low, but it’s a bit too late, in my opinion.
Pros
+ Stunning design
+ Excellent build quality
+ Adjustable airflow
+ Both restricted DTL and MTL
+ USB-C PD fast charging (3A)
+ Two Pods included (0.7Ω & 1.2Ω)
+ Great flavor from both pods
+ Good pod lifespan
Cons
- Battery status is only visible by removing/inserting the pod.
- No Pass-Through vaping while charging
Final Review Verdict
There’s no denying ARGUS P1 is a stunning-looking pod kit. It also delivers a fantastic vape experience from the excellent ARGUS pods.
The 0.7Ω and 1.2Ω resistance pods deliver great flavor with a super smooth draw. The airflow adjustment on the P1 helps with this, along with giving you the ability to do both restricted DTL and tight MTL vaping.
I still think the ARGUS Pod device is a better option. The performance is the same (from the same pods), but you get fully adjustable wattage and a display in a slimmer profile device.
That being said, if you prefer the look of the P1 and want super-fast charge speeds – the P1 definitely comes highly recommended.
