When you first look at the VOOPOO Drag Nano 2, it looks novelty, especially with the chain attached.
But don’t let its appearance fool you, it is as good as any other Mouth To Lung pod system.
As the name suggests this isn’t the first of its kind, the original VOOPOO DRAG Nano was released in 2019.
Back then the DRAG range was a range of high powered box mods, however, the range is much different today, consisting of 15 mods (both tube and box), 1 pod system (the Nano) and 3 pod mods.
The VOOPOO brand was established in 2016 but its parent company has been around since 2010.
Throughout the last 5 years, VOOPOO has had a huge global success.
A few years ago their DRAG box mods seemed to be the thing to have and they put VOOPOO firmly ‘on the map’.
However, it is arguable that their best year was last year, with the launch of the VOOPOO DRAG pod mods and more importantly the PNP range, which VOOPOO very quickly expanded on… A lot!
At the time of writing VOOPOO’s website boasts that they have sold more than 30Million e-cigs to an audience of 200 countries.
Although I wouldn’t say I am a fan of every VOOPOO Product, that certainly have my respect.
What Can We Expect From The VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2?
My friend the FlatCap Vaper reviewed the original VOOPOO DRAG Nano for EcigClick and gave it a 6.3 out of 10.
I on the other hand thought it was a fairly decent, although not perfect device, however, he did make a lot of important points on how the device could and should be improved.
And they have certainly made improvements.
The original has an awful and tight filling port and VOOPOO has addressed that by giving the DRAG Nano 2 a top fills port…I have got a few complaints about it but it is much better.
The pods are cross-compatible with the Vinci Pods (not to be confused with the Vinci pod mod pods). What a tongue twister that turned out to be!
The pods are refillable and have built-in coils. There are 2 different pods available for the kit a 0.8ohm and a 1.2ohm pod.
The kit has 3 different power settings, adjustable airflow and 3 lights to indicate the battery level.
Design & Build Quality
The VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 comes in a variety of 8 colours: 5 leather and 3 PC – all of which have a silver metal frame.
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Battery Section
The VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 is as incredibly well built as the original.
As I have a leather version, I can’t comment on the PC colours.
However, if they are anything like the leather they’re awesome.
There is a leather patch on either side. One side has the DRAG logo stamped into it which is the full size of the patch. The other side has a small VOOPOO logo stamped into the bottom. Both patches have a border stamped in, are slightly padded and are well stuck.
The USB-C charging port is on the bottom with the Gene Chip marking, the back is completely blank.
The top has the Pod port and lanyard/chain holes while the front has the button, 3 led indicators and airflow control.
I’m not a major fan of USB ports being on the bottom of the device, so there is some loss of design points there.
The metal is shiny and the entire device is smooth.
DRAG Nano 2 Button
The VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 only has 1 button.
It’s a super small button, measuring 4.5mm in diameter and it’s raised by about 1mm.
However, this button is only for functionality such as turning the device on/off or changing the power setting.
Despite its size, the button has the typical VOOPOO radial pattern on it.
The buttons tension is just right, in my opinion. It is easy to press but not so easy that pressing it accidentally is an issue.
3 LED Indicators
Just above the button is 3 small LED indicators. From top to bottom the indicators span across 7mm but each LED is only 1mm in diameter.
The lights are plenty bright enough and easy to see in any light setting, but they’re not unnecessarily bright.
VOOPOO has made the indicator light a lot more simple to remember. Each LED symbolises 33% (a third) of the battery level.
So here’s what the battery level shows:
0 – 33% = 1 LED light
33 – 66% = 2 LED lights
Above 66% = all 3 LED lights
The colour of the lights signifies the power setting.
Blue = Minimum power
Green = Medium power
White = Maximum power
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Airflow Control
The airflow control on the VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 is placed above the LED Indicators and it’s a little bit different to other devices.
It consists of a little knob that is attached to a plate, on one side of the knob the plate is solid, to restrict the airflow.
On the other side of the knob, the plate has a gap through the centre to allow more airflow.
The knob is fairly stiff to move, but not so stiff that it is a hindrance, even for us nail biters.
To change the airflow you simply slide the knob up or down. While pushing down the airflow is a nice restrictive draw and when it’s pushed up it’s fairly lose it’s almost restriction free.
The rest of the airflow comes in down the side of the pod.
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Pod Port
The pod port is a rounded rectangle shape, right at the bottom, there is a plastic plate with 2 small holes in the centre.
These small holes are for the draw activation sensor. At either side of that is a connection port.
Other than that there isn’t anything of interest, except from the 2 indents on the lengths of the port walls.
These indents correlate to a lip on either side of the pod to secure the pod into place.
I can’t recall how deep the original port was but it is evident that the new pod port is shallower, thank the redesign of the pods.
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Pods
The body of the pods is pretty standard.
The part of the pod that goes into the port is black and thinner than the rest of the pod.
Above that part is transparent, and with the vast majority of the e-liquid above the port, you can easily see how much liquid is in the pod.
I haven’t mentioned the fill port yet because it’s underneath the mouthpiece.
You remove the black mouthpiece by pulling or tipping it off. By doing so you expose the silicone bung which goes all the way across the top of the pod.
Lifting it at one side exposes the filling hole
There are a few issues here…
First of all, I’m not very keen on the filling port being under the mouthpiece because it can’t be good for the long term, however, because they’re replaceable pods I’m not that fussed.
Secondly, usually with this design, there is rubber inside the mouthpiece that presses onto the silicone bung to ensure it doesn’t leak, however with the VooPoo Drag nano 2 pods, the mouthpiece is hollow. This means if the bung isn’t perfect there will be leakage.
Finally, there is no divide or real gap between the fill hole or chimney.
Although that isn’t a major issue if you’re careful but it does put the chimney at risk of being ‘flooded’ especially if the pod is overfilled.
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Chain
As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, all VooPoo DRAG Nano 2s come with a chain.
Which is essentially a necklace that you attach to the lanyard slot on the side of the device.
The chain is 80mm long and has a proper clasp. Sure it’s a bit novelty but it is super handy for days out and such.
For example, I took the original to Leeds Fest as a backup (and I also wanted an MTL vape so I wasn’t clouding people out if it was windy and I was in a condensed crowd).
VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Quick Start Guide
Turn on/off = press button 5 times in quick succession
Adjust wattage = press button 3 times within 1.5 seconds, Click the button to change the power setting. Save and exit by leaving for 3 seconds.
Airflow adjustment = Slide the airflow knob up to open more and down to close more.
Vape = Suck on the mouthpiece while the device is on
Check battery level = use the device, or quick press the button
How Does the VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 Perform?
I tried the pods out with Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a 50VG/50PG nic salt, the flavour profile is Peach and passion fruit and I was using them with 10mg nicotine strength.
0.8ohm VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 pod
This pod is awesome! At full power (white light) and the airflow fully open, you get a pretty awesome flavour, which pretty much floods the mouth.
The vapour production creates just a little less vapour than you would get smoke from a cigarette.
It’s super smooth but from my experience turning the airflow down makes it a little bit less smooth and reduces the flavour.
As you go down through the power settings, you get a similar experience, the only difference being is with less power I preferred the airflow a little less.
I was going to go through the different power settings and different airflow but that could be pretty long and would be very boring. Boring because it’s just great, there is an awesome flavour for every MTL style.
Even the lowest power with full airflow gives awesome flavour.
Although there were flavour dips, they weren’t often and didn’t last long.
1.2ohm VOOPOO DRAG Nano 2 pod
Low and behold this pod is fairly good too, although I don’t think it’s so much of an ‘all rounder’.
For me, this pod was best on full power with the airflow half-open.
When the airflow is set to fully open or on the weakest power, the flavour is lessened a lot, but still not flavourless.
The Vapour production is lessened, but I don’t think there was a great deal of difference.
Higher VG E-Liquids
I only had one of each pod. So I used both pods for 5 days each and then filled them with Rochford Project Lemon meringue, which is a 70VG/30PG liquid.
Both Pods handled the e-liquid quite well the results were pretty much the same as with the 50vg/50pg e-liquid although there were more flavour dips.
That been said, I don’t recommend using these pods for high VG liquids. The coils inside the pods are small with small wicking holes, using high VG liquids will drastically depreciate the life span of the pods.
VOOPOO Drag Nano 2 Battery Life & Charging
It’s not quite clear at what wattage the kit uses with what pod so it’s hard to do my usual battery life math.
However, I can say the battery with the 0.8ohm coil lasted me a full day.
I think the shortest it lasted during my time testing was 8 am till 4 pm, but I was vaping a lot that day.
The 0.8ohm pod should last you about 6 hours if you are frequently using it. The 1.2ohm pod lasted a fair bit longer, it generally lasted me about 10hours of frequent use.
If you’re thinking that the battery life isn’t quite fast enough for you, fear not.
The VooPoo DRAG Nano 2 charges in about 45-50 minutes, I think that is pretty awesome.
I found if I fully charged it, then gave it a bit of a top-up charge while I drove home (15-20 minutes), the battery with either pod, lasted me a full day (16-18) easily.
Does the VooPoo DRAG Nano 2 Leak?
It doesn’t leak and I haven’t had condensation in the pod port.
I can’t say any at all because there was one very small drop of liquid under the 1.2ohm coil. But that was it.
That been said, there has been the odd occasion that I have noticed a small amount of liquid inside the mouthpiece when I have removed it to fill the pod.
But it’s only a small amount and I didn’t notice it every time. So it is possible that the liquid was spilt the last time I filled it, the liquid never leaked out fully.
Pros
+ Less than 1 hour to fully charge
+ Diverse Airflow
+ Good Flavour
+ Doesn’t leak
Cons
- The Top fill system could be better designed
- Changing the power is fiddly (not an issue unless you do it all the time)
Final Review Verdict
In hindsight, it seems a bit like VooPoo made the original DRAG Nano for pure novelty.
Don’t get me wrong the novelty aspect has always been obvious, but it seems like they didn’t put a huge amount of effort into it.
Then they realised people liked it, so they made an effort to make it into a decent pod.
Hat’s off to VooPoo, they listened to everyone’s opinions and used them to improve.
If you look back at FlatCap Vapers review of the original, you will notice they have improved everything on his list of ‘Cons’.
They improved the pod, making it easier to fill and less ‘cheap’.
They even went to the extent of giving the device fewer ‘fingerprint magnet’ surfaces.
Then, for the icing on the cake, they even added adjustable airflow.
All in all, they’ve done a pretty good job, to the extent the only thing I can complain about is they didn’t put enough thought into the filling port.
Although the device is still a novelty type of device, it is now a notable pod system for starters or a side/backup device.
Is this a pod kit you’re using or looking to buy?
