Trends DotMod DotStick Revo Review

DotMod dotStick Revo is a genuinely innovative entry into the cluttered pod vape market.

Unlike other pod vapes we’ve highly rated, DotStick Revo does not come with a standard lithium-ion battery. Instead, it uses a “supercapacitor” that enables it to charge from 0-100% in 5 minutes.

It also comes with adjustable power settings, adjustable airflow, and a removable 3.5ml capacity pod.

DotStick Revo utilizes dotMods excellent mesh dotCoils, and 0.7Ω and 0.9Ω are included in the kit.

DotStick Revo is currently available in 6 colors: Clear, Smoke, Green, Orange, Red, and Purple.

Design & Style

The design and form factor of dotMod dotStick Revo is a hybrid of a traditional vape pen and a modern pod vape system.

It has all the design cues you’d typically expect from dotMod, with a large clear pod and funky designs. It very much looks like a futuristic version of the original dotStick.

The device is a 21mm wide tube and measures 109mm tall. It’s also incredibly light, thanks to its plastic frame. The lack of a lithium-ion battery and the use of a supercapacitor also helps shed some weight.

DotStick Revo has a very unique design with a plastic transparent outer casing covering a black inner tube. The inner tube has lots of dotMod logos and supercapacitor symbols plastered across it in the obligatory dotMod gold.

The plastic casing of Revo has a nice matt finish, is smooth to the touch, and has an almost frosty appearance.

The colored versions (like the Green we have for review) are punchy, vibrant, and almost fluorescent. It really is a stunning-looking pod vape.

DotStick Revo has a fire button that slightly protrudes from the device. It has a dotMod logo on it, and it feels good quality with good clickiness.

Surrounding the fire button are some LED lights that glow through the plastic casing when you use the device. They highlight the battery status along with the power mode you have set the device to.

There is also an adjustable airflow slider on the side of the device. It is a small silver pin that slightly protrudes. It doesn’t have the most amount of positional changes but does slide and stay in place easily enough.

The USB Type C port for fast charging is on the base of the device. It sits slightly recessed within a circle to protect against dirt when placed on a table.

Overall I absolutely love everything about the design of dotStick Revo. Its unique and funky design is unlike anything else on the market.

Some might feel it’s a bit too light and plasticky. However, it still feels like a good quality device, and that lightweight body makes it a joy to use and carry around.

Pod/Tank

The pod or tank that comes with Revo has a 3.5ml juice capacity.

It’s made of completely clear plastic, and it is incredibly easy to see your juice level right to the last drop.

DotMod also sells the tanks in matching translucent colors for the device if you want to style it a little differently.

It clicks into place in the Revo device. You can rotate it when connected, but it is held well with very little play or wiggle.

The fill port for the pod is located on the bottom side, so it needs to be removed to be refilled. There is a rubber plug with the dotMod logo and an arrow to show where to open it from.

It’s a reasonably ample-sized fill hole, but it is in a slightly awkward position. Just make sure you go slowly when filling. If you try and squeeze too much e-juice in, it does have a tendency to squirt back out.

The tank also comes with two different-sized drip tips. They are both whistle-style drip tips, but there is one slightly longer for MTL and a stubbier one for DTL vaping.

Coils

DotStick Revo utilizes the dotCoil series coils, which are also compatible with dotAIO V2 and dotTank 25mm.

They are mesh SS316L coils and have a push-to-fit style. They push into the base of the pod nicely and easily, but removing them can be a little tricky.

Revo comes with two coils in the kit, a 0.7Ω and a 0.9Ω coil. There are 3 in total that it can be used with, and they have the following ranges.

0.3Ω (25-40 watts)

0.7Ω (14-20 watts)

0.9Ω (12-16 watts)

Revo is not comptaible with the 0.15Ω dotCoil.

Features

DotStick Revo is the first vape to utilize a Supercapacitor instead of a lithium-ion battery. This energy-storing solution gives it the equivalent of a 700mah battery.

What is a Supercapacitor?

Supercapacitors can be charged and discharged over 15,000 times with minimal degradation. In contrast, a standard lithium-ion battery can only be charged and discharged 300 times or less with the same loss. This makes supercapacitors extremely useful in applications requiring frequent energy storage and release.

Considering the supercapacitor’s low internal resistance, they can obtain significant charge and discharge currents. Supercapacitors can reach the same charge state as traditional batteries within minutes. The dotStick Revo can fully charge in less than 5 minutes when used with a 30w charger.

Sadly, one is not included in the kit. But that’s understandable to keep costs down. You can purchase one from dotMod if you don’t already have one for your phone.

Other features

DotStick Revo can be operated using the designated fire button, but it also features auto-draw activation.

Revo also comes with 3 different power settings with an output range of 5w -35w.

The power can be adjusted by pressing the fire button 3 times. It has the following colors and power outputs:

Red = Low Power

Blue = Medium Power

Green = High Power

  0.3-0.5Ω 0.7Ω
Red Light 25W 16W 12W
Blue Light 30W 18W 14W
Green Light 35W 20W 16W

The LED light around the fire button will show you the current battery status when using the device with the following:

Green = 61-100% (3.85-4.2V)

Blue = 21-60% (3.55-3.85V)

Red = 1-20% (3.30-3.55V)

As dotStick Revo uses a supercapacitor, it is not a regulated constant output device, so the voltage will decrease as the power drains, as shown above.

Operating dotStick Revo couldn’t be any simpler:

On/Off = 5 clicks of the fire button

Change Power Output = 3 clicks of the fire button (LED light will change color)

Performance

DotStick Revo is an excellent performer.

Both the 0.7Ω and 0.9Ω coils included in the kit deliver excellent punchy flavor from the mesh coils.

The 0.7Ω delivers a slightly warmer vape, as you’d expect, and marginally more vapor, but it does come at the expense of battery life.

I didn’t have the opportunity to try the 0.3Ω in Revo. I’m sure it will deliver great performance, but I fear it might drain the battery (or supercapacitor) far too quickly.

The adjustable power setting works well on the Revo, and you notice a difference when flicking between them.

You also notice a difference in the power output when you drop battery levels. As soon as I see the blue light, I can feel Revo giving me a little less oomph.

I mainly stuck with the 0.9Ω coil as I didn’t feel there was too much difference between them. I was also happy with this on the medium power setting (Blue) as it gave me the most bang for my buck. The cols also lasted me about well over a week with these settings.

Charging & Battery Life

This is where Revo really comes into its own and is such a unique device. I only need to plug it into my 30W charger for 30-60 seconds when I notice the power has dropped below 60% (Blue LED), and then it’s fully charged – it’s like some kind of voodoo magic.

It really has changed the way I use the device. I can basically use it all day long on full power with just a few quick 1 minute top-ups throughout the day.

Honestly, switching to another pod device just felt wrong when I had to wait for it to charge!

The big caveat with this, though, is you need to be near a power outlet and have a 30W charger (which most modern phones use nowadays). It still charges fast with lower wattage chargers, but don’t expect lightning speeds.

As for the 700mAh equivalent battery, it does match up to that in my experience. However, that’s just not enough for a pod vape if you are out and about and want to use it all day. I’d probably grab something over 1000mAh if that’s the case.

As I’m mainly working from home and popping out for the odd chore or dog walk, I find Revo to be the perfect companion.

Airflow

This is where I’m not so in love with dotStick Revo. The adjustable airflow works, but it only goes from a loose MTL to a restricted DTL draw.

If you shut the airflow off completely, you are still left with a loose MTL draw, which is where I kept it for the 0.9Ω coil. So don’t expect a tight MTL draw from Revo; it’s just not possible.

The auto draw function of Revo is also a little disappointing. It’s fine when you have a tight airflow setting, but as soon as you really open it up, it seems like it’s just too much air for the trigger. It’s just not sensitive enough.

So if you plan on using it as a DTL device, you may have to stick with manual firing.

In general, the airflow is smooth on Revo, and as I said before, you do get really great flavor and vapor from both the mesh coils.

Final Review Verdict

Simply put, dotMod dotStick Revo is an unbelievably impressive pod vape.

It is so unique with its rapid supercapacitor charging, that it’s blown everything else out of the water when it comes to fast charging. It still amazes me, and I’ve been using it for over a month!

However, it is not all about the charging speeds. The Revo also delivers an excellent flavorful vape from both included coils. In addition, it has a decent juice capacity, and the coil longevity is good.

The Revo looks fantastic; it’s lightweight, easy to use, charges in the blink of an eye, and is now one of my favorite pod systems to use.
