Trends VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Review

What To Expect From VOOPOO Vinci Royal Edition

As I have already explained VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition is a premium version of the Vinci Q Pod.

It has a Zinc-Alloy and Aluminium-Alloy body and each design have a fancy panel design that is actually embossed. VOOPOO Also give the impression that these panels are hand made but we’ll get onto that later.

VINCI Royal Review 2

It’s button-less, so it only works on draw activation. It has a built-in 800mAh battery and VOOPOO say it has USB-C ‘fast charging’ which will charge in 1 hour but I’m sceptical of that charging time.

The pods have built-in coils, which can be great for beginners. The Royal Edition comes with 2 pods, however, there are 4 available all of which have the top fill. They are also apparently anti-leak (basically anti-condensation).

To backtrack a little bit, there is a button, or at least that’s what VOOPOO call it. The “button” doesn’t press in through, it’s a slider on the side of the device for the adjustable airflow.

Finally, the device has 4 small, but surprisingly bright LED indicator lights.

There are a few different functions for the LED indicators which we’ll get on to later.

Design & Build Quality

VOOPOO Royal has 6 different designs and colours.

VINCI Royal Review 3

I received the White Leaf. I think it looks really smart and quite charming.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Battery Section

The battery section is quite small, in a convenient way and not in a novelty way. It measures just 71.5mm x 24 x 14.5mm. That does exclude the airflow adjustment which takes the width to 25mm rather than 24mm. Get it right VOOPOO!

VINCI Royal Review 4

Overall It’s pretty smooth. The back is clear with nothing other than the VOOPOO Logo and the Gene Logo.

Either side has a groove running up the centre, which is put there for extra comfort and grip and I do think it makes a difference.

On one side is a small 0.5mm airflow hole and on the other side is the airflow adjustment slider. That's 12x 8mm in size and at its highest point, it protrudes by approximately 2mm.

The USB-C port is on the ‘bottom’ of the device. Usually, I’d complain about that, but the bottom is rounded off, so it can’t be stood upright.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition The Artisan Panel

On the Front of VOOPOO Vinci Pod, Royal Edition is the artisan panel. This seems to be a big selling point for the kit and I get it, it does give the Royal Edition that extra special ‘feel’ factor.

VINCI Royal Review 5

The Panel is 66×16.5mm and has a shiny silver border.

So what's so special about it? Well VOOPOO Say;

“From a simple sketch to creating a unique work of art which is fully made on request, that’s how the experience and creation of VINCI POD Royal Edition can be summarized. Every single pattern is made by the skilful hands of our master sculptors and experienced artisans, the unique models endlessly push the boundaries of excellence.”

and they go on to say;

“The spirit of persistence has been the soul of royal craftsmen since ancient times. With this spirit, after 8 months of 12 manufacturing processes and 68 steps, the craftsmen of the VOOPOO R&D team ultimately created each exquisite masterpiece.”

So I’m a little bit confused, it seems unlikely that they hand make every panel but that is certainly what VOOPOO are trying to portray. On their website, they even have an image of one being sculpted.

All I can say is, it is very well made and it is very sensory while remaining smooth. It definitely gives it that special feeling.

It also has a raised Vinci Logo in the middle with really fine lines etched across it. The whole thing just has this huge sense of precision about it.

VINCI Royal Review 6

Whether it was made by hand or machine, it’s very detailed and very well made.

LED Indicators

Towards the bottom of the panel are the 4 LED Indicators. Each one is super small, less than 0.5mm. Together they span across 3.5mm.

VINCI Royal Review 7

Now you may be thinking how useless they may be, however, I went out into the full beam of the winter sun to test them out. Okay without cover you can’t see them but just lifting one finger created enough shade to make the lights easily visible. That’s impressive for such small lights.

I mean they’re so small, when they’re not lit up they just blend into the artwork!

The lights give an idea of your current battery level.

Lights are green = Battery is 60% or more full

Lights are Blue = Battery is between 20% and 60% full

Lights are Red = Battery is less and 20% full

Personally, I would rather those be a bit closer together. 30% would be better than 20%, in my opinion.

Other lights:

Flash Once = pod has been connected successfully

Flash red twice = Pod not detected (try cleaning the pod base or try a new pod)

Flash red 10 times = Low power

Flash red 8 times = puff timer cut the power off (after 8 seconds)

Red for 2 seconds = short circuit (try changing the pod and make sure there is nothing in the port)

Flashes red 15 times = Overheat protection

While charging the indicators will continuously flash until the device is fully charged. When fully charged the indicators will remain green until unplugged.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Adjustable Airflow

The Airflow adjustment sider is fairly stiff but not too stiff and it’s actually quite smooth and nice to use.

VINCI Royal Review 8

When pushed up the airflow is turned down. At this position, it gives a nice restrictive Mouth To Lung Draw. It’s not massively restrictive but enough to make your cheeks pull in slightly. It’s been so long since I’ve had a cigarette, but it’s fairly similar, if not a tad looser.

When pushed down, the airflow is open. In this position, you can actually get a Restrictive Direct To Lung (RDL) draw from it. It’s not an RDL device, but it does demonstrate how loose the airflow is. I quite liked it in this setting. Just right for a loose MTL draw.

It may just be my imagination but I’m fairly confident in saying the 0.8ohm pod has a slightly restrictive airflow.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Pod Connection

The Pod fits perfectly flush to the mod. It’s held in by a tongue and groove system at either side of the pod.

VINCI Royal Review 9

If you’ve read my reviews before you know I don’t usually like this method, as it’s not always a good long term solution. However, you have to remember we are using ‘disposable pods’ (being that you can fill it but not change the coil). So this isn’t a problem because the ‘tongues’ will well outlast the pod.

In the centre is a square reservoir, I don’t know why it’s there, to be honest. Inside that is a raised hole, this is where the draw activation sensor is

I assume the reservoir is to give the activation sensor more height and therefore lessen the likelihood of it getting wet if the pod were to leak.

The pods can be inserted at any rotation.

VOOPOO Vinci Pods

The pods are pretty standard. The base is pretty smooth, with an airflow hole and 2 connection points.

VINCI Royal Review 10

On the side of the pods at the very bottom is the coil's resistance, which is nice and easy to see.

VINCI Royal Review 11

The pods have been designed so that the vast majority of the e-liquid sits above the pod port. The pods are also fully transparent, making it super easy and convenient to see your juice level. Top marks for that!

Mouth Piece & Fill Hole

Up a little bit more and we get to the black opaque mouthpiece. The mouthpieces are very typical, in shape, of a VOOPOO (and Smok) Pod. At the very top they are 22×11.5 mm with an oval airflow hole of 6.5×4.5mm, although the deeper the airflow hole goes, the smaller and more circular it becomes.

VINCI Royal Review 12

The fill port for the pods is hidden underneath the mouthpiece. Just simply “snap” off the black section to expose it.

The bung is easy to lift, even for us nail biters and the fill hole is a decent size. When you’ve finished the mouthpiece simply presses back on.

How Does The VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Perform?

Sure, it’s great to have all this artisan artwork and impressive lights but the big question remains. Is it a fancy novelty piece of art, or is it a vape worth having to actually use?

I use Got Salts Peachy Promise with both of these pods. It's a 50VG/50PG peach and passion fruit flavour.

Vinci Pod 0.8ohm (pre-installed)

VINCI Royal Review 13

I absolutely love it!

With airflow turned all the way down you get a really prominent flavour at the back of the mouth as you draw and on the exhale the flavour rushes around your mouth.

The airflow production is probably a little less than you’d get from a cigarette, nice and discrete.

When you open up the airflow, the flavour is a little bit less concentrated but it’s still beautifully prominent.

Meanwhile, the vapour production is increased from the amount of smoke you could expect from a cigarette.

Vinci Pod 1.2ohm

VINCI Royal Review 14

This pod is just as flavoursome as the last.

Again with the airflow turned down you get an awesome, super prominent concentrate of flavour at the back of the throat. The vapour production is less than the smoke you would get from a cigarette.

As with the 0.8ohm coil, turning the airflow up produces more vapour on the exhale and the flavour rushes around your mouth beautifully.

Pod Overview

I used these pods constantly, at times I even has numerous consecutive drags and they coped amazingly well. There was the odd dip in flavour here and there, but even then the flavour was still prominent.

Halfway through using each pod, I filled them with a 70VG/30PG juice, just once.

Both pods handled them just fine, but these pods are not designed for high VG liquids and I did notice that at times it struggled to pull the juice through quick enough.

Again these pods are not designed for high VG liquid and by using it you will lessen their lifespan.

Draw Activation

Draw activation is all well and good but sometimes they aren’t quite sensitive enough. It’s quite a dilemma because if the manufacturer made them too sensitive they’d be prone to auto-fire.

I can say my VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition has never auto-fired on me and I’m very happy with the sensitivity of it.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition Battery

By today's standards, the VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royals 800mAh battery seems super small. Is it enough?

VINCI Royal Review 15

VOOPOO claim that the battery can do 500 puffs from a single charge. I didn’t get my click counter out here because it can vary quite a lot.

Instead, I cracked out my calculator and for 500 puffs you’d have to be using the lowest wattage (11w), but we can’t control that so we have to assume you’re getting that on the 1.2ohm pod. Either way, to get 500 puffs for 11W you’re puff length would have to be between 1.9 – 2 seconds per puff…

I read some research last year that found the average puff length for MTL devices were 3.5 seconds. Although, admittedly mine is more like 2 seconds.

Either way on both pods I got a full day to use out of them easily. Depending on how frequently you draw and how long for I believe the battery will cover you for anything between your entire workday (10 hours of fairly frequent use) to a day and a half. That’s what I got at least.

What’s more, it did charge in 1 hour, less than that in fact. I hold my hands up I never caught exactly when it was charged but it was always 55 minutes give or take 5 minutes.

Leaking

The icing on the cake is there wasn’t any leakage, no condensation, no nothing!

Final Verdict

Hold up. Did you think I’d forgotten? No, I told you I wasn’t going to be wooed.

I’ve never used the ‘Vinci Pod’ before, but now I have. That’s right, it’s the same thing, it’s just a “Royal Edition”. They didn’t lie to you, the clue is literally in the title. As far as I can see, it’s just got a fancy panel and different coils inside the pods.

I’ll level with you, I was sitting here for 10 minutes trying to think of a con and that was the only thing I came up with.

VOOPOO Vinci Pod Royal Edition is something for everyone.

If you’re just starting out this is a good vape that's easy to use with minimal faffing.

If you’re on disposables and you’re looking to save money by getting an actual vape this is the next thing for you.

If you’re a hobbyist vaper get it, just because!

I suppose, if you’re someone that doesn’t care about devices all that much (why are you reading this?) and you only like direct to lung, then it’s obviously not for you…

I hate my reviews to sound like sales pitches and I know this may come across that way but it’s a little device, that has good flavour, good cig like a vapour, it’s easy to use, gives you a little control with minimal faffing, it has a fast-charging battery and it’s artistic and stuff. Come on, seriously.

I really like it and I’m not even that much of a fan of MTL vaping!

Full Disclosure: The Reviewers Box

So as I promised, I’m going to give you a peak at my reviewers kit.

VINCI Royal Review 16

VOOPOO are very good at gifts, and although this is a little strange it’s still flattering!

First of all, it comes in a hardback box, which has a magnetic closing and golden writing. It just begs to be opened. “Open me there’s something interesting inside”.

Inside you’re presented with all these gold things, and honestly, they make the pod look rubbish… haha.

VINCI Royal Review 17

There is a ‘Royal’ badge complete with an issue number, a bottle opener (beer bottle opener), a spoon and a folk… random right, where’s my knife?

Let’s not forget the card inside the fancy envelope, that’s held to the lid with ribbons!

In all seriousness, this 100% hasn’t affected my opinions of the device, the device was reviewed and scored solely on its own.
